The main stud is keeping abreast with the latest technologies and advances made in breeding livestock, as we aim to supply only the top genetics to our purchasers. Line breeding and embryo transfer are another area currently under research and development. Our philosophies at Serena Lodge is to use all the best available tools and necessary service providers; our vets, personal handlers and even feed merchants etc. It is their desire to breed the best possible Suri and Huacaya alpaca’s, expanding on the colour gene pool already establishing and the one they have introduced into their own breeding programs and the others they have established with other studs. The Serena Lodge Stud wishes to create additional colour choices that will also improve the herd at the same time. Serena Lodge has proven itself time and again with the progeny results from our stunning true to type suri and huacaya males who have since retired or those that are currently standing at either of our studs. Their progeny and great-grand progeny are now multiple broad ribbon winners in countless Royal Shows and the Alpaca Nationals each year. Serena Lodge Alpacas boasts itself as Tasmania’s Connection and Premier Alpaca Stud with regards to its alpacas – actually all of it’s specialty animals. Currently Serena Lodge is the largest alpaca stud and breeder in Tasmania. Now with the recent purchase of a sister Stud in Romsey, Victoria, the future for the breeds are now secure. In 2005, Serena Lodge was judged and awarded multiple times with broad ribbons and commendations finally going on to win Best Fleece in both the Suri and Huacaya – the ultimate success story every breeder dreams of and for Therese and Dave Badcock it was well worth the wait. They were successful at the Royal Hobart Show by achieving both Champion and Reserve Champion Fleece (both breeds) claiming outright victory. 2006 seen a similar clean sweep of dominance in most competition rings in Tasmania and at the Canberra Nationals with Jolimont Marscopino was judged Best Huacaya Mature Male. Other Serena Alpaca’s were presented broad ribbons also in various age groups. The current economics of alpacas farming is based on returns from alpaca sales and the fleece selling to private craft people, weaving, spinning and woollen mills for production into fine woolen wear garments and household products. If it can be made from sheeps wool, it can be made from alpaca. At Serena Lodge we’re dedicated to serving you and your investment. We love what we do, and it shows! With some of the best studs in Australia we offer gorgeous offspring and outside breeding opportunities unmatched elsewhere. We also have a direct connection with Peru, Chile and Bolivia and are able to access animals from here. Our Staff Serena Lodge staff members are more than happy to assist customers with training, support and encouragement. There is a Veterinary lab being constructed currently on the premises, and Serena Lodge works closely with Universities and their camelid medical staff on joint research projects that will directly benefit the industry and the human race.
